You’ve found where in the world you want to go, you’ve booked your Trafalgar trip, and you’ve turned your cupboards inside out to piece together your holiday wardrobe. Now it’s time to decide how you’re going to pack all of those shorts, tops, dresses and shoes. Unsure which suitcase is best? We’ve put together our top suitcase packing tips and favourite brands to help lighten the load.

Suitcase packing tips

Carry-on baggage for the coach

We recommend bringing a small overnight bag, without wheels, so all of your essentials can be in an easy-to-reach place above your head. Your main suitcase is stored below in the hold. We think the Stand overnight bag by Eastpak is pretty neat – plus it comes with a 30-year guarantee.

When you’re off the coach, you’ll want somewhere to store essentials – like a bottle of water, a purse or wallet, a camera, wet wipes, sun cream and sunglasses (depending on where you go and what time of year, of course) – so you can easily carry them around with you. A small, lightweight crossover bag is a wise bring-along, especially if your itinerary involves lots of exploration on foot. We like these his-and-hers satchels by Fossil – they’re waterproof and provide extra security.

A suitcase that’s lightweight, sturdy and easy to transport will make your journey much more pleasant. Of course, you won’t need to worry about carrying your luggage during your trip – it’s taken on and off of the coach and delivered to your room, every time. We recommend a lockable case with wheels so you can glide through the airport departure lounge, and can travel safe in the knowledge that no-one can tamper with your luggage. Samsonite cases come in all shapes and sizes, and are highly recommended thanks to a lifetime guarantee. We think the Spinner Upright case is a good all-rounder.
