Many of us are looking at alot of sofa time in the coming weeks, and there’s only so much Netlfix any of us can handle. So, whilst we may not be able to explore our big beautiful world right now, we can grab a family size box of popcorn and settle down with a good flick. These are the movies the Trafalgar team turn to when we need a little travel inspiration…

Eat, Pray, Love

This blockbuster classic is a travel lover’s perfect Saturday afternoon watch. A post-break up Julia Roberts discovers a true love of food in unbelievably picturesque Rome, rediscovers her spiritual self on retreat in India, and falls head over heels in love with swoon-worthy Javier Bardem in heavenly Bali. This movie is comfort food for the soul. The perfect inspiration for your next adventure – whatever you’re looking for.

The Beach

The movie that launched a thousand Thai gap years for fresh-faced teenagers. Watch dreamy early 00s Leonardo DiCaprio’s adventures on one of the world’s most beautiful beaches. There’s only one way to describe this film’s spectacular setting: paradise

Mamma Mia

The definition of a feel-good classic. The star studded cast, combined with Abba’s extensive musical catalogue, means this is a movie that’s good no matter how many times you watch it. Have a dance in your living room and soak up some seriously stunning views of the Greek islands.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

Walter Mitty (Ben Stiller) plays a Life Magazine employee on the hunt for a missing cover-shoot photograph for the magazine’s last ever print edition. His adventure takes him all over the planet – from Manhattan to Greenland and the Himalayas – and offers some breath-taking views of some of the world’s most rugged, remote and stunning locations.

Midnight in Paris

If your travel dreams happen to include a romantic vision of Europe in its golden age, then this Woody Allen flick is the perfect watch for you. Owen Wilson’s character steps back in time to Paris in the 1920s. This is a movie filled with all the glitz and glamour you’d expect from the age of flappers and jazz. 1920s icons Pablo Picasso, Ernest Hemingway, F Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald and Gertrude Stein ‘appear’ in this fairy tale ode to Paris.

Call me by your name

The film which helped launch Timothee Chalamet into stardom is a story of romantic awakening and coming-of-age. But, more than anything, it’s a dreamy love letter to the Italian countryside and way of life. Based on the novel by Andre Aciman, the movie details not just how Oliver and Elio fall in love with each other, but how the Italian countryside itself is romantic. This instant classic was shot entirely on location in a tiny Italian village and will have you dreaming of long hot summers, lazy afternoons and deliciously fresh Tuscan cuisine.

P.S. I Love you

Much of this heart-wrenchingly beautiful tale of love and loss takes place against the backdrop of Ireland’s lush rolling hills. When it isn’t busy showing you the beauty of the Emerald Isle, there are plenty of drool-worthy shots of New York and its incredible skyline.

La La Land

This Oscar-nominated movie starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone is the classic Hollywood musical genre brought into the 21st century. It combines shots of some of Los Angeles’ most famous and iconic spots with jazz, dancing, singing and a beautiful storyline of stardom and romance. The perfect pick me up with an excellent soundtrack, all shot in dazzlingly beautiful colours and gauzy sunset-toned light.
