No better way to experience the world. Trafalgar fits the I’s and crosses the t’s . Every detail down the collection and delivery of luggage, purchasing tickets, border crossings and tricky terrain. No better way to travel.
The itinerary is jam-packed and quite strenuous. Lots of uphill walking and stairs. Some of the night tours (especially those on the bus) should be eliminated. You can’t see & you can’t take photos at night thru the bus windows. Perhaps consider having dining experiences, or inside tours in the evenings. The majority of the hotels were much nicer than anticipated. Only one was subpar.
Tour Director, Sandra & Driver, Domenico, were excellent. Hotel staff in Paris were deplorable, although the hotel was very nice. Many of the Local Specialists spent too much time talking in one spot, as if they were trying to fill time. This tour was during the Christmas & New Year season. It was explained to us how difficult it was to secure rooms & services during this time, so we would need to be flexible. The optional for Versailles wasn’t even available “due to the holidays.” This was very disappointing, as touring Versailles was one of the deciding factors for this trip. It should not have been advertised as an optional experience if Trafalgar could not deliver at this time.
The tour director was always ensuring we had the best experience possible. The fact that our luggage was collected from, and placed in, our hotel room at each destination made the trip easier.
Gratuities: You have the option to pre-pay the gratuities for your Travel Director and Driver. Please speak with your travel agent.
Festive Meal: The 11 December 2022 departure will celebrate Christmas in Lyon. We have arranged a festive meal for this departure that may replace one of the included meals featured in the itinerary.
Bastille Day is a national holiday in France. Celebrations will be taking place throughout the country on 14 July.
Drinking Water: Tap water is safe to drink in all of the destinations on this trip. Please remember to bring a water bottle.
Your London Hotel: This trip starts and ends at The Tower hotel.

Active Trip Details

What is an Active Trip? This is an "Active" lifestyle itinerary, with walks and hikes most days. Hikes will range from easy/moderate to strenuous. No technical climbing skills are required but a reasonable level of fitness is required to make the trip more enjoyable. Understanding that not all people want to hike at the same pace or even on the same trail we will, where possible, host map orientation and then let everyone disperse to enjoy the trails best suited to them.
What to Pack Guests should bring lightweight hiking shoes or boots, broad brimmed sun hats, sunglasses, layered clothing, reusable water bottle(s), a hiking day pack and hiking poles (optional)
Weather & Altitude While the itinerary is laid out below, we are at the mercy of the weather and so reserve the right to adjust the program as necessary. Please keep in mind that the higher elevations and possible variations in weather and temperature can increase the perceived level of difficulty of our activities. Elevation ranges up to 9,000 feet for Utah’s Mighty Five and up to 11,000 feet for California High Country Adventure.
Everyone reacts differently to altitude and so if you do have any health issues you should check with your doctor that this trip is suitable for you.
