7 life lessons everybody can learn from Winnie the Pooh

Recently updated on July 6th, 2023 at 10:09 am

He may just be a ‘silly old bear’ with a soft spot for honey, but Winnie the Pooh has been claiming a space in the heart’s of children (and adults) for almost 100 years. First brought to life through the imagination of A.A. Milne, who’s birthday is commemorated through the annual Winnie the Pooh day (January 18th) , Milne’s books tell the story of Pooh, Piglet, Christoper Robin, Eeyore, Kanga, Roo, Owl and Tigger, and their adventures in the Hundred Acre Wood.

We all read the stories as children, but as adults it’s the lessons about life, love, friendship and growing up, that continue to capture our hearts and minds. You’re never too old to learn, and as it turns out, we can all learn alot for a certain Pooh bear and his forest friends…

“After all, one can’t complain. I have my friends” – Eeyore

Life is better with friends, it’s that simple. Whether you’ve known them a lifetime, or just met them, our friends are the ones we can turn to for advice, support, laughter and a large glass of vino, at the end of a hard day. Hold them close and tell them how much you appreciate their friendship.

“If you live to be a hundred, I hope I live to be a hundred minus one day, so that I never have to live a day without you” – Winnie the Pooh

If you find that special someone who you never tire of waking up next to every single day, you’ve found your person. Love doesn’t come around every day, so when it does be sure to cherish it.

“You’re braver than you believe, stronger than you seem and smarter than you think” – Christoper Robin

Tell this to yourself, your children, and your grandchildren. We are all capable of far more than we think, but often we refuse to believe in ourselves. So, change it. Be your own cheerleader, and see just how far you can go.

“Some people care too much. I think it’s called love” – Winnie the Pooh

Do you have someone in your life who will never give up on you, no matter how much you push them? That’s what love looks like.

“Could be worse. Not sure how, but it could be” – Eeyore

You can always rely on Eeyore for a dose of realism. Perspective is a marvellous thing, but often we lose it in our day to day lives. Try to see the bigger picture, and don’t sweat the small stuff.

“The things that make me different are the things that make me, me” – Piglet

Small but mighty, little Piglet might just be the wisest of them all. You may feel like you’re different, like you don’t fit in or break the mould, but never forget that your difference is your super power. After all, who wants to blend in when you can stand out instead?
