Visit the old capital and religious centre of Georgia, Mtskheta

An ancient city that has been inhabited since before 1,000 BC, Mtskheta is a historic highlight of any Georgia travel experience. We’ll take you on a journey through this former capital city and UNESCO World Heritage Site, where you’ll discover ancient castles, pagan monuments and medieval monasteries.

Take a stroll through the old town of Tbilisi

An enchanting maze of laneways, courtyards and wooden balconies, a walk through Tbilisi’s Old Town is one of the best things to do in Georgia. We’ll reveal the wonders of the Old Town and take you through twisting streets filled with a mix of European, Russian and Art Nouveau architecture.

Take a sulphur bath

Set in the Abanotubani area of the historic Old Town, the sulphur baths are one of the top Georgia attractions. Housed under brick domed roofs, the rejuvenating baths are sourced from sulphur springs in the ground, with therapeutic minerals and naturally hot water at 40°C.

Visit the Holy Trinity Cathedral

Towering over the city at the top of Elia Hill in the Old Town of Tbilisi, the Holy Trinity Cathedral is a monumental place of worship. Located in the historic neighbourhood of Avlabari, It’s the third tallest Eastern Orthodox Cathedral in the World and the central Georgian Orthodox cathedral.

Take a cable car to The Mother Statue

A 20-metre aluminium statue of a traditional Georgian woman, the Mother of Georgia statue is one of the most striking Tbilisi attractions. Built in 1958 on top of Sololaki hill, the woman is a symbol of Georgian character, with a bowl of wine to welcome friends and a sword to fight off enemies.

History museum

Originally founded in 1910, the Tbilisi History Museum is home to over 50,000 archaeological, ethnological and artistic artefacts, showcasing Tbilisi’s history from the 4th millennium BC. Since 1984, the museum has been housed in a restored caravanserai (a roadside inn), to represent Tbilisi’s historic role along the Silk Road trading route.

National Gallery

Located in the centre of Tbilisi, the National Gallery is the hub of Georgian art, with works ranging from the fourth century to the modern era, by Georgian and international artists. You’ll find the largest Pirosmani collection in the world, with a range of works from Niko Pirosmanashvili, Georgia’s best known painter.

Sighnaghi

Sighnaghi Ethnographic museum

The Sighnaghi Ethnographic museum is set in Signaghi, a beautiful town in the eastern region of Kakheti, with wine valleys, mountain views, pastel houses and tiny laneways. The museum houses some of the country’s best exhibitions including archaeological excavations and art works from Pirosmani, who was born in the Kakheti region.

Khinkali

Perhaps the most famous dish in the country, khinkali isn’t just Georgian food; it’s a Georgian work of art. A meat filling wrapped in dough, khinkali is boiled so the meat produces a broth inside. The best way to eat khinkali is with your hands. Take the twisted knob, suck out the broth, then enjoy the rest of the dumpling.

Khachapuri

A delicious cheesy bread, khachapuri is one of the tastiest traditional Georgian dishes. Kneaded dough is shaped into a boat and filled with cheese, butter and an egg in the centre. Baked until golden, you can pull the crust off the bread to dip into the melted cheese filling.
