Day 3
Explore Honolulu
Delve into the heritage of the real Hawaii, experiencing first-hand the history, culture and hospitality of the warm Polynesian people. Explore on your own or enjoy one of the many optional activities suggested by your Travel Director. Tonight, it's a Mai Tai, ocean breezes and tropical flavours all round as you join your travel companions for a dinner featuring local fare.
This morning, we pay homage to the thousands of brave soldiers who lost their lives in the surprise military strike at Pearl Harbor. We will visit Pearl Harbor National Monument and the USS Arizona Memorial, followed by a drive through the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, located in Punchbowl Crater. USS Arizona tickets are subject to NPS availability not known till day before visit. We return to downtown Honolulu to connect with the spiritual epicenter of Hawaii and the former home of Hawaii’s last-reigning monarchs. See the Iolani Palace, King Kamehameha I Statue and the State Capitol Building, before spending the rest of the day at leisure.

See The Volcanic Beauty Of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park
Fly to the Big Island of Hawaii, on arrival in the charming town of Hilo you will have time to explore and enjoy the beautiful Liliuokalani Gardens, the largest ornamental Japanese gardens outside Japan. Next visit the UNESCO listed Hawaii Volcanoes National Park to see the Thurston Lava Tube (when open) and learn about the geology of the Islands. We continue along the coast to Punalu’u Beach park, famous for its black sand and Hawaiian green sea turtles. This evening as we arrive in Kailua Kona, we meet our Local Specialist who will share insights into the graceful Manta rays that are clearly visible from the hotel before enjoying rich Island flavors at dinner tonight.

Today we enjoy a MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experience as we visit the Hawaii Ocean Science & Technology Park where you will have the choice of visiting a deep Ocean Salt farm to learn about the importance of salt in Hawaiian culture and how its production from the deep ocean or visiting the Kanaloa Octopus Farm where researchers are exploring new techniques for aquaculture and sustainable farming. We return to the lively town of Kailua Kona where you will have time to explore before we return to the resort. We Connect With Locals during a visit to a unique coffee plantation to learn how coffee is grown and roasted before we travel to the airport for a short flight to Maui. After dropping the anchor to snorkel, we fire up the grill and prepare a delicious BBQ meal for you right on the boat! Drive through the island's famous Tunnel of Trees and continue to Waimea Canyon State Park, one of the Hawaiian Islands most awe-inspiring sites. Dubbed the “Grand Canyon of the Pacific” you will drive all the way up the canyon. The result of thousands of years of erosion, the canyon walls offer a canvas of brilliant shades of red, brown, green, blue, gray and purple, with shadows and light producing a never-ending show.

Unwind And Explore Kauai
Kauai’s natural treasures are yours to explore during this full day at leisure. Take to the skies on a helicopter flip over the Na Pali Coast and Manawaiopuna Falls, or channel your mana in picturesque surrounds. On your final night on Kauai, join your travel companions for a Farewell Dinner.
A Kauai Movie Tour adventure for young and old, movie buffs and nature lovers! You’ll visit many famous sites on Kauai where Hollywood Blockbusters and TV shows were filmed. Your backstage pass will take you to scenic locations with your film buff guide and you’ll even view clips of those notable films. We would not have gotten this value from booking all of this ourselves.
Great hotels (with the exception of the Aston Beach Hotel in Waikiki - wonderful location and common areas but the rooms were dated and worn), great baggage service good food, and a great tour director in ****************. The included luau was memorable. As for Michael, he helped us with some suggestions on how our group of 4 could stay together, he made sure our inter-island flights included our Trusted Traveler status, he was full of information during our tours, he was funny, and he cared about everyone in our tour group.
We really enjoyed seeing so many natural highlights of the Hawaiian Islands and learning so much history, too. Our tour guide, Esther, made everything fun and enjoyable.
Itinerary of touring the islands was just right. Our tour director was a pro. Beautiful stops, great optional experiences and free time to just relax or just explore. Our premium rooms had beautiful ocean views such as seeing the giant manta rays right from our lanai at the Outrigger on the Big Island or the sunrise/sunsets/rainbows from our other balcony views. Definitely worth going premium! (Only hotel that is a little dated, noisy and crazy was Aston). but the people that worked there were true to the Aloha spirit!
Beautiful trip! Our tour guide, Tyson, was fantastic. The highlighted tours were interesting, the optional experiences were unforgettable (definitely worth the cost and time) and the free time allowed us time to explore or relax on our own. The accommodations on the different islands all had their own unique amenities, just like the different and beautiful Hawaiian islands. Our fellow travelers were awesome and it was fun to get to know them during this unique adventure. Mahalo!
The Trafalgar Tour Director (Mike M) was outstanding. He was very knowledgeable and accommodating. He had a wealth of history and stories to share which made the trip very enjoyable.

What is an Active Trip? This is an "Active" lifestyle itinerary, with walks and hikes most days. Hikes will range from easy/moderate to strenuous. No technical climbing skills are required but a reasonable level of fitness is required to make the trip more enjoyable. Understanding that not all people want to hike at the same pace or even on the same trail we will, where possible, host map orientation and then let everyone disperse to enjoy the trails best suited to them.
What to Pack Guests should bring lightweight hiking shoes or boots, broad brimmed sun hats, sunglasses, layered clothing, reusable water bottle(s), a hiking day pack and hiking poles (optional)
Weather & Altitude While the itinerary is laid out below, we are at the mercy of the weather and so reserve the right to adjust the program as necessary. Please keep in mind that the higher elevations and possible variations in weather and temperature can increase the perceived level of difficulty of our activities. Elevation ranges up to 9,000 feet for Utah’s Mighty Five and up to 11,000 feet for California High Country Adventure.
Everyone reacts differently to altitude and so if you do have any health issues you should check with your doctor that this trip is suitable for you.
