Day 4
Journey to Ancient Kom-Ombo
Sail upstream to Kom-Ombo, where life remains much as it was a thousand years ago. Standing at the threshold of the imposing Temple of Kom-Ombo on the banks of the Nile, you’ll imagine visitors over the centuries arriving to pay homage to the gods Horus the Elder and Sobek. Tour the Temple, learning all about its ‘double’ and perfectly symmetrical design for the duo of gods – one side dedicated to the crocodile god, the other to the falcon god. After a captivating encounter with the ancients, we enjoy a traditional Egyptian dinner on our cruise boat. Watching the sun set over the shimmering Nile, we’ll don our galabeas and toast to legends of the past and new friends.
Set sail on a traditional felucca across the mighty Nile to voyage around the Botanical Gardens on Kitchener’s Island. On arrival explore the Aswan Dam, built to curb the periodic flooding of the Nile. Our next stop is the Temple of Isis, followed by a visit to the Unfinished Obelisk, lying semi-carved from the solid bedrock.
This four-hour excursion includes a flight to Abu Simbel, site of the Temple of Ramses II with his four great statues. You’ll also see statues of Queen Nefertari on the facade of the Temple of Hathor. 75 minutes will be spent at Abu Simbel - the remainder will be travel time. Would have liked less time at sites where the purpose was to purchase goods. e.g. Papyrus store in Aswan and Egyptian cotton store in Cairo.
See below. I expected the river boat to be a little more luxurious. However the attentiveness, friendly service and helpfullness of the crew was excellent. I loved the flavours of the Egyptian dishes. Fresh falafel for breakfast and great cheeses, also very tasty deserts.
Absolutely wonderful and amazing family trip to Egypt. It was a perfect visit...sights, exhibits, transfers, hotels, accommodations, food, guides, and tours. We've heard it said that Egypt is a "once in a lifetime" trip...not for us! We'd go back in a heartbeat!! We've been back home for 2 months and we still talk about our Egypt trip every single day. Our kids loved it as much as the adults.
Our first time to Egypt, but we couldn't have imagined a better itinerary or better staff to work with. Plus, the hotels they selected were great and the motorcoaches that we used were fantastic - clean, spacious and the bathroom on board was a huge bonus!
Our Egyptian Guide Muhammad was excellent and he taught us more than we expected and was so good with us. We were treated like Kings and Queens amongst the King and Queen ruins we touring in. We could have never asked for or have gotten a better Guide than Muhammad. Thank you Muhammad for being our far away teacher. Thank you Trafalgar for having Muhammad.
Everything was taken care if including the covid test for our trip back. It took all the work and stress out of things so we could just enjoy ourselves.

What is an Active Trip? This is an "Active" lifestyle itinerary, with walks and hikes most days. Hikes will range from easy/moderate to strenuous. No technical climbing skills are required but a reasonable level of fitness is required to make the trip more enjoyable. Understanding that not all people want to hike at the same pace or even on the same trail we will, where possible, host map orientation and then let everyone disperse to enjoy the trails best suited to them. What to Pack Guests should bring lightweight hiking shoes or boots, broad brimmed sun hats, sunglasses, layered clothing, reusable water bottle(s), a hiking day pack and hiking poles (optional)
Weather & Altitude While the itinerary is laid out below, we are at the mercy of the weather and so reserve the right to adjust the program as necessary. Everyone reacts differently to altitude and so if you do have any health issues you should check with your doctor that this trip is suitable for you.
