North Island

The Rotorua district is a marvelous place to get a sense of New Zealand’s North Island.

Visit Rainbow Springs Nature Park, where we’ll show you the flora and fauna that populates this unique environment. Te Puia is the country's Māori cultural center, and it’s here you can see the fearsome Pohutu Geyser and more than 500 other geothermal marvels. Our Māori Local Specialist will talk to you about the customs of this proud race and you'll witness the techniques of traditional Māori woodcarvers.

South Island

Punakaiki is a delightful resort town on the west coast, caressed by the Tasman Sea. Nearby is Paparoa National Park, renowned for its spectacular blowholes and Pancake Rocks – where you can experience the primal power of nature.

50 miles down the coast is Hokitika, a beautiful little town where pounamu – or greenstone – is prominent. Here, we'll take you to a workshop for a demonstration of how jewelry is created from this highly-valued gemstone, a Māori symbol of beauty and strength.

Or if you take our trip which visits Fairlie in Canterbury, you'll be welcomed into a farmhouse by your hosts Angie and Stan. Learn how rural life operates in this part of the world and enjoy a delicious barbecue lunch in their 600-acre garden.

New Zealand is crammed with geological wonders. The sacred water of Wai-O-Tapu is a thermal wonderland, where you can witness the power of Mother Nature. Its boiling mud pools, geysers and tracts of volcanic land create a landscape rich with vibrant orange, green and blue hues.

For oceanic phenomena visit the Hole in the Rock, off Cape Brett, a 60-foot arch created by centuries of wind and waves. Take a boat trip around this beautiful area and sail through the arch, which the Māori call Motu Kōkako. At the opposite end of the country is Milford Sound. This fjord’s slender inlet is enclosed by sheer rocky walls, with a shallow entrance and deep basin of dark, oxygen-deprived water. Sail around and admire towering cliffs and peaks and spectacular waterfalls. The highlight is the incredible 1,692 metre high Mitre Peak, a stunning slice of New Zealand iconography.
