Trafalgar Aperture

Sailing on the Douro River

Trafalgar Aperture was made for the Douro River, and you’ll notice it in all the small details. In the terraced vineyards reflected in the Sun Deck’s pool, the local Portuguese dishes on your evening menu, in the amber of the Port in your glass, made only a few bends upstream. Ashore, there are quintas to visit and medieval villages to get lost in, while back on board, the restaurant’s river-view windows keep the scenery rolling as you settle in with a little something from the tapas menu. Feel the heart of the Douro Valley, one moment floating after the next.

Trafalgar Aperture Deck plan

With 106 guests and 38 crew on board, Trafalgar Aperture has a ratio of less than three guests for every crew member, one of the lowest in river cruising. Choose from a thoughtfully designed selection of 53 staterooms and suites, where you can wake up, pull back the curtains and watch the mist lift off the Douro. When you feel like company, the lounge is the place to be, and up on the Sun Deck views of the valley do the talking.

With nearly everything taken care of, Trafalgar Aperture leaves you free to enjoy Portugal and Spain at your own unhurried pace.

Taste the valley, glass by glass

The Douro is one of the world’s oldest wine regions; a fact the Main Restaurant loves to take inspiration from. Menus lean on locally sourced Portuguese and Spanish produce, paired with wines and Port made from the vineyards outside your window. Between meals there’s tea, tapas and lighter bites in the lounge, plus a specialty coffee station for when the morning needs a little help. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and other dietary needs are all catered to.

Be as busy or blissfully idle as you like

Some days you’ll want to lace up and join a guided hike or wander through the old town ashore. Other days, walking from the Sun Deck pool to the bar is as energetic as things get. In between, there’s plenty to fill the gaps. Book a massage, put your feet up with a book, or pull up a chair for a golden-hour cocktail as the ship slips away from the bank. And when a place gets under your skin, our Optional Experiences let you stay with it a little longer.

Spaces to slow down in

The lounge is wrapped in panoramic windows, so the scenery never stops moving while you sit still. Up top, the Sun Deck pool overlooks the whole Douro Valley, and it’s one of the best seats on the river. There’s room for families and groups to gather too, without anyone feeling crowded.

With a thoughtful 24/7 reception, support is always on hand whenever you need it. Stay connected with onboard WiFi. Enjoy full morning service and a light evening turndown.
