Question 1

Why should I choose a Trafalgar River Cruise?

Accepted Answer

Bringing over 75 years of land experience to the water, a Trafalgar River Cruise offers ease, flexibility and unforgettable experiences. Only unpack once on your floating hotel as you travel through multiple destinations, and dive into signature Trafalgar experiences including Be My Guest and MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® that leave a positive impact on the places you visit. Move at your own pace, joining guided excursions, borrowing onboard bicycles for your own adventures, or simply staying on the ship to unwind on the sun deck.

Question 2

What is included in a Trafalgar River Cruise?

Accepted Answer

Almost everything is included on a Trafalgar River Cruise, including accommodation in our beautifully appointed staterooms or suites, buffet breakfast & lunch, à la carte dinner, wine, beer & soft drinks with lunch and dinner, and teatime during an afternoon sailing. You'll have personalized service from your Experience Director, Experience Manager & crew, plus daily included experiences & local tours, Be My Guest and MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experiences. Onboard, there is entertainment, lounges and sundeck for relaxing, socialising or games, full morning service & evening turndown, self-service laundry, and bicycles for land use. Gratuities for the shipboard crew are also included.

Question 3

What should I pack for a Trafalgar River Cruise?

Accepted Answer

Prepare for a variety of weather conditions depending on your travel season and the regions through which you will be cruising. Layering is always your best approach, allowing you to comfortably adjust to changing temperatures throughout the day, including those onboard and ashore. Pack a lightweight waterproof jacket (preferably hooded) or a heavier-weight windbreaker for cooler temperatures. Comfortable, sporty, smart-casual daywear is suitable both onboard and onshore. For warmer temperatures, lightweight, breathable fabrics that can be layered work well. For early spring and late fall departures, heavier cotton or wool tops, long-sleeved shirts and pants are perfectly appropriate. You will participate in a significant amount of walking over uneven terrain during your time ashore. For your comfort and safety, we recommend comfortable walking shoes with good ankle support. Sturdy sandals are another good option. For evenings, resort-style attire is perfectly suitable; however, we do ask that shorts not be worn to dinner. During your trip, you will be supplied with Vox Tour Guide Systems, which will let you hear your Local Specialist during selected experiences. We supply a one Vox in-ear earphone, but we recommend you bring a personal set of earphones with an Auxiliary Audio Cable. This will ensure you have the sound quality which suits your preferences.

Question 4

How many people are on Trafalgar River Cruises?

Accepted Answer

Whichever River Cruise you choose to travel on, there will be fewer than 130 guests onboard and a crew-to-guest ratio of 1:3. In addition to the ship’s crew, every Trafalgar river cruise features both an Experience Director and an Experience Manager – your Experience team is your go-to resource throughout the journey.

Question 5

Where do Trafalgar River Cruises travel?

Accepted Answer

Currently our River Cruises travel throughout Europe on Best of the Seine with Paris & Normandy, Best of the Rhine and Amsterdam, Best of the Danube, Danube Christmas Markets, and Rhine Christmas Markets.

Question 6

Can children travel on Trafalgar River Cruises?

Accepted Answer

Yes, Trafalgar welcomes children age 5+. All children and young people under 18 years old must be accompanied by, and booked in a cabin with, a parent or guardian (age 21+) who is who will be responsible for their supervision and welfare throughout the duration of their river cruise. Please note that there are limited connecting staterooms on some of our ships.

Question 7

What is the difference between a river cruise ship and an ocean liner?

Accepted Answer

River cruise ships are designed to sail along inland waterways. They are narrow, have a flat bottom and are relatively low so they can seamlessly pass through locks and under bridges that are plentiful along Europe’s waterways. River ships are more intimate than ocean liners and Trafalgar’s river cruise ships carry an average of 128 guests, compared to ocean liners that are built for open seas and can carry thousands of passengers. Visit our dedicated ship pages to review the deck plan and ship information for your selected river cruise.
