When you visit Matea Botaro and her family’s winery, you’ll feel right at home. They love welcoming guests, and it starts with a traditional touch—a welcome liquor paired with homemade sweet snacks. You can pick from their four homemade liqueurs: sage, cherry, walnut, or wine liqueur. Then, it’s time to settle in for the first course of dinner, where the wine tasting kicks off. You’ll sip their family’s wine while hearing incredible stories about their five centuries of winemaking. Experience on Balkan Delight.

Whatever your travel style, Trafalgar's Croatian trips will delight you. Find slow island days by the shores of Hvar and endless history within the walls of Dubrovnik, before exploring the lesser-known beauty of Plitvice National Park.

What to pack for Croatia

Travelers from the EU, US, UK, Canada, and Australia can visit Croatia visa-free for up to 90 days within a 180-day period. Other nationalities should check with the Croatian Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs for specific entry requirements.
Croatia is a fantastic destination to travel to all year-round, but the best time to visit depends on what you want to experience. Its beautiful coastline is great to visit most of the year, from spring to autumn, which are both ideal for pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and lower prices. Summer (June to August) is the peak tourist season, perfect for bustling beaches and exciting island hopping, but it can be crowded and hot. Winter (November to March) is quieter, and while the coast is less lively, cities like Zagreb have beautiful festive Christmas markets.
Croatia has two main climate zones. The coast enjoys a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, rainy winters. Inland areas experience a continental climate with cold winters and warm summers. Summer temperatures range from 25-35°C (77-95°F), while winter can drop to around 0°C (32°F) in the north.
Croatia joined the EU in 2023 and so it now uses the Euro (€). Credit cards are widely accepted in most hotels, restaurants, and shops, but smaller businesses and markets may prefer cash. ATMs are readily available across the country.
Croatia uses Type C and Type F plugs, with a voltage of 230V and a frequency of 50Hz. If your plugs are different, you’ll need a travel adaptor.
Tipping isn’t mandatory, but it’s appreciated. In restaurants, rounding up or leaving 5-10% is common for good service. For taxis, rounding up the fare is polite. In hotels, small tips for housekeeping and porters are welcomed.
ATMs (bankomats) are widely available in cities and tourist areas. Most accept international bank cards, but be mindful of transaction fees. Check with your bank before traveling to find the best withdrawal options.
Yes, tap water in Croatia is safe to drink and of excellent quality - some of the best in Europe. You can also refill your bottle at public fountains, unless stated otherwise.
Packing for your Croatia trip depends on the season you're visiting. In summer, bring lightweight clothing, a swimsuit or two, sunglasses, sunscreen, and comfortable walking shoes. Croatia's main draw is the beautiful coast, so bring anything appropriate for the beach. For spring and fall, pack light layers and a rain jacket. In winter, warm layers and waterproof gear are necessary, especially if visiting inland regions.
Even just a weekend in Croatia is unforgettable, due to its beautiful baby blue waters. Turn that into a week if you want to either explore its cities like Dubrovnik and Split, or go island hopping. If you want to do it all, as well as visit other famed sites more inland like Plitvice Lakes, consider staying 10-14 days.
We highly recommend guests purchase travel insurance prior to your trip. Please ensure you add the details of your insurance to the MyTrafalgar portal.
