Italy is world-renowned for the quality, seasonality and authenticity of its food, and Venice is no different. Its nutrient-rich lagoon produces top-quality seafood, while its ‘garden island’ of Sant’Erasmo is a powerhouse for growing fresh fruit and vegetables, year-round.
What to pack for Venice
When you travel to Venice, make sure you keep in mind that this is an ancient city built on waterways, so comfort and sturdiness when it comes to clothing, shoes and even luggage is important – but don’t be afraid to add some Italian flair!
This depends on where you're travelling from, the nationality on your passport, and whether your destination country is part of the Schengen Agreement. This agreement sees 26 European countries, including Italy, offer visa-free travel to nationals from 60 other countries including Australia, the United States, Canada, Japan, and the United Kingdom.

Venice has bright sunny weather, moderate temperatures and fewer crowds during spring (March - May) and early fall (September - October), with unique cultural events taking place like the Venice Historical Regatta (September) and Feast of St. Mark (April). February is when Venice Carnival takes place, and while it’s busy it’s also the spectacle of a lifetime.
Generally the best time to visit Venice for weather is in spring, before the heat of the summer arrives (regularly exceeding 30°C/86ºF), or in fall, when the city starts to cool down with temperatures averaging around 18ºC/64ºF.
Venice uses the same currency as the rest of Italy, the Euro.
Venice has 3 associated plug types: type C (two round parallel pins), type F (two round parallel pins and one hole above them), and type L (three round pins in a line). The standard voltage in Venice is 230V at a frequency of 50Hz.
It is customary to leave a small cash tip after a meal, round of aperitivos or drinks at a cafe or restaurant. Many restaurants may add an optional service charge to your bill of between 10-12%. On tour with Trafalgar, tips and gratuities are included as part of your tour price and taken care of by your Travel Director for anything included as part of your tour experience.
ATM access is easily available in Venice, though it’s best to use ATMs linked directly to a bank (look out for the ‘Bancomat’ signage) so you avoid getting charged.
Internet access is easily available in Venice; there are mobile hotspots across the city, and many restaurants, hotels and cafes have free Wi-Fi that patrons or guests are able to use.
Tap water is safe to drink in Venice, and there are over 100 drinking fountains across the city where you can fill up a reusable water bottle when you’re exploring.
