Discover Japan on our award-winning tours

Where avant-garde technology meets ancient tradition

From the gleaming futurism of Tokyo, to the ancient Temples of Kyoto, join us on a voyage of discovery through this welcoming nation. You’ll enjoy a visit to a Ryokan home for lunch and gain an insight into traditional family life. Something that packs a punch is wasabi, a traditional Japanese condiment which has been cultivated for more than 1,000 years. Do try some, perhaps as an accompaniment to soba noodles.

Tokyo

Japan's capital, Tokyo, is a place where traditions and trends go hand in hand. Visit the Mejii Shrine, located in a forest that covers an area of 700,000 square metres and consists of 365 different species of trees.

Feeling hungry? A visit to Japan would not be complete without visiting a sushi bar. We go one better and arrange for you to attend a sushi-making class that we’ve organised just for you. Another must-see is the world's second tallest structure, the Tokyo Skytree, a futuristic sabre piercing the sky.

Chūbu Region

The Chūbu region of Japan is home to a vast array of extraordinary sights and sensations. Visit the incredible Five Lakes District where you will witness some of the most breathtaking natural sites in Japan. Look up and gaze at the iconic sight of Mt. Fuji’s snow-capped peak before travelling on an unforgettable ascent 2,300m up the mountain.

Head north and step back into another era when you visit Shirakawa-gō and Gokayama, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites. This bastion of tranquillity is populated with traditional minka homes, distinguished by their striking gassho-zukuri wooden roofs, typical of 17th century settlements in this region.

Kanazawa is where 99% of Japan's gold leaf is produced. Here you’ll get to meet a local artist, who’ll join you to reveal the mysteries of this sophisticated and lucrative craft and its application. Visit the historic Nagamachi district and walk its tapering lanes while admiring the old and beautifully preserved samurai houses.

Kyoto

The city of Kyoto shows Japan at its most ancient, is surrounded by mountains on three sides and is populated by more than 1,000 Buddhist temples. Have a chance to visit the Kinkakuji Temple, renowned for its Golden Pavilion and the Fushimi Inari Shrine with its tunnel of thousands of bright orange torii gates that snake through the forest up into the mountains.

Also visit a classic Japanese Ryokan built in 1932, once the home of Emperor Akihito's uncle. You will be welcomed in by the owners and treated to a traditional multi-course kaiseki dinner, while your hosts talk with you about their customs and traditions.
