Trips to Berlin are guaranteed to be full of culture and history, and there’s no better place to discover it than through its 170 or so museums which give you an insight into the city’s art, history and natural history, from the famous East Side Gallery to smaller museums.
Berlin is a melting pot when it comes to cuisine, with Jewish and Eastern European influences alongside Vietnamese and Turkish influences (the last of which gave us the famous döner kebab) – but you’ll also need to make time to try traditional German dishes too.

Summer is the best time to explore Berlin with long days and warm weather – it’s when festival season kicks off and the city’s many green spaces come alive as people embrace al fresco living. Winter brings traditional Christmas markets and festive cheer, while shoulder seasons spring and fall offer a quieter time to experience the city more like a local, avoiding the weather extremes of summer and winter.
The weather is best in Berlin during late spring and summer, with long days full of sunshine, with summer temperatures getting up to 30ºC/86ºF. Fall is still dry but considerably cooler, dropping to around 15ºC/59ºF, while winters can be drizzly and very cold, with temperatures hovering around freezing for most of the season.
Berlin uses the same currency as the rest of Germany, the official currency of Europe, the Euro (€).
When you travel to Berlin you can use two associated plug types: type C (two round parallel pins) and type F (two round parallel pins and one hole above them) at 230V.
As in much of Europe, tipping in Berlin is customary but not mandatory – if you experience good service a tip of around 10% is appreciated when dining out at restaurants.
