Day 3
Sail Drake Passage
We leave the Cape Horn and islands of Tierra del Fuego behind us, bound for the swirling convergence of the Atlantic, Pacific and Southern oceans, quite often referred to as the 'Drake Shake'. Enjoy the panoramic views and spot local aquatic life as we cruise through Drake Passage.
With no land in sight, we keep a keen eye out for some of the pelagic seabirds that venture far out into the ocean. Enjoy briefings, orientations and lectures from experts providing insights into life on Antarctica and how to prepare for our arrival.
Discover the South Shetland Islands and Antarctica Peninsula
Immerse yourself in the incomparably beautiful landscapes of the South Shetland Islands and Antarctic Peninsula during our next four days of this expedition cruise.
Explore South Shetland Islands and Antarctica Peninsula
We continue our expedition cruise journeying through slushy straits dotted by luminous icebergs that glow cobalt and white like beacons in the deep blue ocean. Our schedule is subject to change, weather permitting.
Continue Through South Shetland Islands and Antarctica Peninsula
Watch the sun glisten on the golden furs of seals lazing on ice floes, slide down snowy slopes and kayak through icy waters in search of whales, penguins and other species of bird that find sanctuary surrounded by gigantic cliffs of ice. Our schedule is subject to change, weather permitting.
Cruise South Shetland Islands and Antarctica Peninsula
Cruise past protected bays, glacial peaks and through narrow channels, weaving in and out this untouched island chain – a journey filled with 'pinch me moments' no photo could ever capture. Our schedule is subject to change, weather permitting.
Spend your last day on board discovering further insights about the Antarctic during several informative presentations and workshops by experts and reminisce about the unforgettable experiences you’ve shared with new friends over a Farewell Dinner.
The spectacular sight of the snow-capped Martial Range signals our return to Ushuaia. After breakfast, we disembark and take a transfer to the airport or consider extending your stay in the city at the end of the world. Airport arrival will be at 12 p.m.; please be aware when booking flights.

No technical climbing skills are required but a reasonable level of fitness is required to make the trip more enjoyable. Understanding that not all people want to hike at the same pace or even on the same trail we will, where possible, host map orientation and then let everyone disperse to enjoy the trails best suited to them. What to Pack Guests should bring lightweight hiking shoes or boots, broad brimmed sun hats, sunglasses, layered clothing, reusable water bottle(s), a hiking day pack and hiking poles (optional)
Weather & Altitude While the itinerary is laid out below, we are at the mercy of the weather and so reserve the right to adjust the program as necessary. Please keep in mind that the higher elevations and possible variations in weather and temperature can increase the perceived level of difficulty of our activities. Elevation ranges up to 9,000 feet for Utah’s Mighty Five and up to 11,000 feet for California High Country Adventure.
Everyone reacts differently to altitude and so if you do have any health issues you should check with your doctor that this trip is suitable for you.
