What to pack for a tour in Glasgow

Although the United Kingdom (UK) is not part of the Schengen Area, many nationalities are able to visit the UK for up to 6 months without needing a visa, including most European countries, the USA, Japan, citizens of Schengen countries and many Commonwealth countries. If you are not from one of these countries, you may need a Standard Visitor visa, you can apply for up to 3 months before you travel, and costs £115 for up to 6 months. The best time to visit Glasgow is during the summer (June to August), when you have the best chance of sunny weather and over 18 hours of daylight. Spring and fall are less busy, though the weather is more unpredictable.
Glasgow is notoriously rainy, with an average of 170 rainy days per year it’s the rainiest city in the entire United Kingdom. However, the weather is relatively ‘warm’ for its latitude, with an average temperature of 5ºC/41ºF in winter and around 20ºC/68ºF in summer. Layers and waterproofs are essential year-round!
Glasgow uses the same currency as the rest of Scotland and the United Kingdom: pound sterling (GBP). Some Scottish banknotes are in circulation, which look different from those in the rest of the UK but are still worth the same amount and can be used across the country.
Scotland only uses one plug type: type G (three flat pins). The standard voltage is 230 V at a frequency of 50 Hz.
Tipping in Glasgow isn't mandatory, but it is customary in restaurants and pubs when eating a meal, with an optional service charge of around 12.5% usually added to your bill. If you're just ordering a round of drinks at a bar or pub, tipping isn't expected (but you are welcome to). Tipping isn't expected when taking a taxi, but if you do want to give one then it's common to simply round up the amount.
ATMs are very common across Glasgow, and while the vast majority are free (often found in banks, post offices and supermarkets) look out for those that will charge you to use (usually in small stores, petrol stations or off-licenses).
While Glasgow isn’t the best city for internet access, you’ll still be able to use your devices (it might just be a little patchy), and you’ll be able to find Wi-Fi fairly easily in cafes, bars and hotels.
