Rocky Mountain Oysters

In the Rocky Mountains, oysters are not oysters at all. This unique dish is actually made from testicles, most commonly from bison, bulls, pigs and sheep. Created by the very first ranchers in the region, these ‘oyster’s are usually breaded and fried and served up with a tangy cocktail sauce, and you’ve got to give them a try on your Colorado trip.

Colorado Style Pizza

This unique thick-crust pie is one of the most indulgent varieties of pizza you can get, made with a honey-sweetened crust and an enormous amount of toppings. The slices are so loaded, the pizza crust is braided to give it more stability when biting into it. Do it like the locals and dunk the crust edge into a sweet sauce at the end to finish off with dessert!

Denver Omelette

This eggy dish is one of the most beloved meals in Colorado. It’s essentially an omelette, piled high with ham, green bell peppers, onion and cheese, although you’ll find all different kinds of fillings to try. What to pack for Colorado

Sun protection

With the state’s high altitude comes more intense exposure to the sun, so be sure to pack sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses to protect you from the harsh UV rays.

Comfortable walking shoes

Whether you’re wandering through the Rockies or pounding the pavement in Denver, you’ll need some sturdy walking shoes on your Colorado trip.

Raincoat

Although Colorado is famed for its sunshine, the summer is also known for its unpredictable downpours. Bring a raincoat or poncho and stay cosy and dry.
